Harvard Square is a well-recognized office building near the Sacramento downtown corridor. Since 1990, it has offered more than 150,000 square feet of Class A office space to the Sacramento market. The building was originally controlled by an early version of Alerton’s Ibex controls. While these controls served their purpose well, they moved into obsolescence in the early 2000s. The product’s obsolescence created challenges for ownership when spaces were renovated and required additional features to meet the demands of current Title 24 code requirements. In 2008, Harvard Square management took the initiative and transitioned the older Ibex equipment to newer BACnet controllers. Management remained ahead of the typical obsolescence issues by changing old controllers at each opportunity provided by a TI (Tenant Improvement). This approach minimized tenant disruption and allowed management to have replacement controllers on hand as the original Ibex controllers fail
